DIY Wedding & Event Buckets

We love to provide seasonal flowers from our Somerset flower farm, for all sorts of occasions - weddings, christenings, parties and many other special events. Our fresh flower season, for providing DIY buckets of blooms, begins in late Spring and ends in Autumn.

Our DIY event buckets are perfect for anyone wanting to use and arrange local, seasonal flowers and foliage, grown using sustainable and agro-ecological methods. Mendip Flower Company is based on the edge of the Mendip's, just outside the town of Midsomer Norton in the village of Stratton-on-the-Fosse. We are only 20 minutes away from Bath, Wells and Frome and can provide flower farm collection or local delivery options.

DIY event buckets contain a 'growers choice' of what is looking best in the field at the time. We can also work to certain colour schemes, but strongly advise booking well in advance to take advantage of this option - ideally at least 6 months before your wedding or event. If you are unsure about what flowers might be in season at the time of your wedding or event, have a look at our Flower Calendar or at our Instagram for seasonal flowery ideas.

We are always happy to answer any questions about our DIY event buckets, please feel free to contact us at hello@mendipflowers.co.uk

Why choose DIY flowers for your wedding or event?
Choosing DIY flower buckets, can be a fantastic, sustainable option for the environmentally conscious couple. This is because it allows for greater control over sourcing your flowers and foliage, reduces the carbon footprint from transportation and storage, and minimises waste.
Environmental benefits include:
-
A Reduced Carbon Footprint: A significant majority of commercially sold flowers are imported, involving long-distance transportation and refrigerated storage, which uses a lot of energy. By choosing to go DIY with locally sourced, in-season flowers, you drastically cut down on these associated carbon emissions.
-
Support for Local Eco-systems and Businesses: Sourcing flowers from local growers and flower farms helps support the local economy and preserves natural resources. These local flower farms often use more sustainable practices, such as growing without chemicals, and provide habitats for local wildlife.
-
Minimising Chemical Use: Imported flowers are often sprayed with an overload of chemicals to help them survive transit, which can be harmful to workers and the environment.
-
Waste Reduction: DIY allows you to control the materials used in your arrangements.
-
You can avoid harmful, single-use materials like non-biodegradable floral foam by using eco-friendly alternatives like chicken wire, reusable vases, or natural materials.
-
You can also plan to repurpose your arrangements throughout your wedding day (e.g., moving ceremony decor to the reception) or use dried flowers that last for months or years, further reducing waste.
-
For confetti, you can use biodegradable options made from dried petals.
-

Other Potential Benefits:
-
Cost Savings: Doing your own wedding or event flowers can reduce costs by eliminating florist labour.
-
Personalisation and Sentimental Value: You have total creative control to ensure the arrangements reflect your unique style. The process of creating them can be a fun, bonding experience for the couple, family, and friends, adding emotional significance to the day.
-
Skill Development: The process of learning to arrange flowers can be a rewarding and creative challenge.
