Frequently Asked Questions
What does seasonal flower farm mean? We are a flower farm that aligns with the seasons. We grow cut flowers and foliage for wholesale and retail. Our cut-flower season is from Spring till late Autumn. The flowers we grow are only available when that variety naturally flowers. Daffodils, tulips and lilac in Spring, Sunflowers, Roses and Dahlias in Summer, Foliage, berries, dried flowers and seed heads in Winter – these are ‘in season’. Seasonal means that we can’t promise a specific flower variety, because we are working with nature (the weather and pests!) but can guide you in the sorts of flowers that will be available.
Can I visit the flower farm? Visits to us are by appointment or pre-arranged event only. At Mendip Flower Company, we love welcoming guests to the farm, BUT this is also our home and work place, so we are often busy with our smallholding and family, as well as growing and picking quality flowers for retail and wholesale. You are very welcome to collect pre-ordered flowers from us during our season at a pre-agreed time (Tuesday - Saturday). We would also love to welcome you to take part in our Pick your own (PYO) flower events on the farm. If you are a florist and would like to visit the farm, please get in touch, and we are more than happy to arrange a time to show you around. You can hear about flower farm updates and future open days by following us on social media or joining our mailing list.
Who can buy your flowers? Everyone and anyone can buy our flowers. If you would like local, seasonal, scented and sustainable flowers and are located in or near our local towns of Radstock, Shepton Mallet, Wells, Bath or Frome, then we would love to provide you with flowers and foliage. Our flower farm is on the edge of the Mendip Hills, just outside the town of Midsomer Norton. Visits are by appointment only. We offer our flowers as bunches, bouquets and buckets from April until October, and as dried flowers and foliage wreaths in the winter months. We welcome retail and wholesale customers. You can buy from our online Flower Shop, contact us directly at hello@mendipflowers.co.uk, or find us at local markets and events throughout the season. Follow our socials or sign up to our newsletter for updates. If we aren't what you are looking for, we are always happy to recommend local florists and other local growers. We also suggest using the Flowers from the Farm website, a wonderful network of growers and florists, of which we are proud to be a member.
Do you do workshops & Pick Your Own? Yes, we offer seasonal workshops for small groups, like festive wreath making. We will also be starting Pick Your Own (PYO) flower events Summer 2026. Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest farm and event updates, or follow our socials on Instagram and Facebook.
Can you provide wedding or event flowers? We are not event florists at Mendip Flower Company, but if you are as passionate as us about using local, seasonal flowers, we would be happy to link you up with wedding florists who work with us and other local flower farms, using only seasonal flowers. If you would like to fully embrace DIY weddings, we can provide DIY event flower buckets for you to create your own wedding or event flowers. A wonderful way to get friends and family involved. Please contact Maria at hello@mendipflowers.co.uk to find out more information.
Do you provide wholesale flowers? Yes! From 2026 we will have wholesale availability for florists. We prefer collection for maximum freshness and to keep inline with our sustainability promise, but do offer local delivery. Please visit our wholesale page for more information and to subscribe to our mailing list.
Do you do Farewell flowers? Unfortunately, we are currently not providing arrangements for funerals, but are more than happy to provide DIY buckets, jam jar posy's or, to recommend local florists who specialise in farewell flowers, using biodegradable methods and local, seasonal flowers.
How long will my flowers last? We are a sustainable, eco-friendly flower farm, so we don’t use any chemical preservatives or flower food on our blooms. How long your flowers last can depend on a few things, but with a bit of TLC, they should stay looking fresh for about 4 to 7 days, sometimes longer. See our flower care tips below to help you achieve optimum vase life for your blooms... Flower Care Tips ~ Start with a clean vase, then fill with fresh, cool water. Bacteria can shorten the life of your flowers, so a clean container makes a big difference. Change the water every couple of days, as bacteria shortens the life of your flowers. Trim the stems regularly. This helps them drink better and keeps them looking perky for longer. Keep them cool ~ Display your flowers somewhere out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources like radiators or sunny windowsills. A cool spot will help them last longer. No chemicals needed ~ Our flowers don’t need commercial flower food. With regular water changes and a little care, they’ll do just fine on their own. Take time to enjoy them ~ Your flowers were grown slowly, with a whole lot of love, so take a moment each day to pause, notice their colour, breathe in their scent, and enjoy a bit of beauty just for you.
